Do It Yourself

Opt to create and develop your site yourself? You can do it and here are steps to guide you alone the way. We are still here to help you if need us.

Step 1

The first step in building a website is to establish the address of your website. Where will your website live and what will it be called. We recommend naming your site name as close to your business name as possible. i.e. our business is "Hilson Designs", so that's the domain name we chose, www.hilsondesigns.com.

Now you need a home, which is known as "web hosting", to display all the information, pictures, video and applications you want to present to the world. Or you may want a private server space to share with a select group. Either way, you will need a hosting account which also your domain name will be attached.

So you pick the location of your house (domain name), and you chose the lot your house will sit on (web hosting), now you need to build the house (design and develop your site).

Your sites completed and you have all the pictures and text you want in the right place. Now what? Now you need to drive viewers to your website. There are a number of ways to do this, but here are a few options.

Search Engine Visibility, Email Marketing, and don't forget about Word of Month. Using social media to drive traffic to your site is also popular.

2. Initial Consultation

We will discuss your overall goals and define your target market. During this time, we will also collect all graphics and text to be displayed on your site. We will also discuss design guidelines such as color, layout and navigation.

3. Design Layout

We will provide a mockup of a common theme page or site design template. This common theme represents the "look and feel" of the site. Also any changes to the mockup will be addressed at this time. Your approval of this phase will be requested before moving to the next step.

4. Development of your site

We will post the entire developed web site for your private viewing. Development includes all graphics & text content. You will be allow to make minor modifications during this stage. All pages will be fully navigable. Graphics will have been optimized for fast loading. We will solicit your approval.
